So for the past year or so, Sam Taylor and I have been working on a short 2D animated film in between our day jobs. Our film is called Everything I Can See From Here. We’re now working fulltime on it and we are looking for animation assistants to join our talented team and finalise the film. If you think you might be interested get in touch! Check out our website for more info: Everything I Can See From Here

Ilusionist roughs and colour keys.

As I moved to Edinburgh I was one of the first people to be put on the background team, one of my first tasks were to create the colourkeys for the first 3 minutes of the movie. Sylvain wanted the movie to start out monochromatic and move in to colour as they traveled to Scotland. The idea was abandoned and the colourkeys not used in the end. There’s still something about them that I like though. So I’ll post them here.

This was a colour study to explore the palette of The Illusionist. To be honest, it was never used for anything practical but it was definitely fun to do and I think it looks kind of good.

These are a few of the approved rough thumbnails for the final layouts, not all of them made it into the film.

Backgrounds from The Illusionist

I was working as a background artist on the (oscar nominated!) film The Illusionist from 2006 to 2009. Below are some of the final backgrounds and a few of the layout drawings from the film. They were done on A3 paper and painted digitally. Some of these paintings are credit to the brilliant Bjarne Hansen who I worked with on the film. Big shout out to all of the crew!
